Pencil a New Chapter distributes pencils to institutions in various countries that support education of children from poor families and/or orphans.

Children in challenging conditions need a window of opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. Education offers opportunities while knowledge empowers. The process creates opportunities for children in challenging conditions. The pencil is a humble but important instrument enabling children from challenging conditions to "PENCIL a new chapter" in their lives.

The pencils are given to institutions providing education programs for orphanages and/or children from poor families regardless of ethnicity or religion and respect the cultural diversity of the student population.

Pencils distributed in Buriram, Thailand through Dana Citta's Maitri@Work

Set up in Aug 2005 by a group of Singapore volunteers, the main focus of Maitri@work is more in the area of education. These include infrastructural projects such as the building of schools and libraries, as well as the disbursement of bursaries for students who cannot afford to pay for their education. Other focus areas include healthcare and social welfare, especially for the elderly who deserve our love and respect for their contributions to society during their younger days.

"Maitri@work transcends all national boundaries; as long as there is a genuine need in any part of the world that deserves help, we will provide our assistance."
