Launch of Light on the Lotus Hill

"Light of the Lotus Hill", a book documenting the life of Venerable Pu Liang will be launched on 28 May 2009.

Symbolism of 28 May

When the China Relief Fund was founded, Venerable Pu Liang supported the organisation in many ways and even stopped his monastery's restoration project.

There was one particular event that generated widespread public support and was extensively covered by the press.

This was the “Vesak Day Fund Raising Event” held at the Shuang Lin Monastery on 28 May 1939. In one day, the event raised more than $10, 000 for China Relief Fund. This amount was equivalent to 4.5 years of a driver's salary in 1939.

70 year ago, on 28 May 1939, Venerable Pu Liang contributed towards the welfare of society.

70 days later, on 28 May 2009, we remember his contribution by launching "Light on the Lotus Hill".

Since the book is written in memory of Venerable Pu Liang, there can be no better way to commemorate his memory than to donate the sales proceeds to the Shuang Lin Monastery Restoration Fund to support a project that the Venerable would have embarked on if he had survived the war.
