About Cultural Compass

We are a group of history and culture enthusiast documenting and researching on the social and cultural history of Buddhism in Singapore.

We start with the Shuang Lin Monastery as it is the first and therefore oldest Buddhist monastery in Singapore.

The articles and information on this website are the result of our research. Our sources of information come from oral history interviews that we conduct, research libraries, history books on Singapore, China and South East Asia as well as English and Chinese newspapers.

It is important to note that we are a group of heritage lovers and we not related to the Shuang Lin Monastery.
